Collection Process
Plasvacc owns and operates the first dedicated natural plasma production facility in Australia and has developed highly specialised techniques for the collection and distribution of hyperimmune plasma (plasma derived from hyperimmunised donor animals).
Plasma can be collected from a wide variety of different mammalian species. Our plasma and plasma-based products are obtained from donor animals that have undergone a strict hyperimmunisation regime to guarantee elevated levels of gamma-globulins (antibodies) in their bloodstream. Donor animals are quarantined, healthy and disease-free to ensure the premium-quality of the plasma they donate.
Our donor animals also qualify as "universal donors" which ensures the plasma they donate is compatible with all breeds of their species.
Plasma is collected when uncoagulated blood is allowed to settle, or is centrifuged, allowing its key constituents to separate. The process of extracting bulk plasma from donors is a complex one, relying on state-of the-art technology and expertise.
There are 8 key steps to the Plasvacc process of plasma collection:
- Donor preparation
- Blood sample collection
- Analysis and testing
- Centrifugal separation
- Plasma collection
- Return of cells to donor
- Freezing & storage
- Distribution

"I have been using Equiplas for a long time in neonate foal care. The ease, reliability and success of the hyperimmune plasma makes it the best choice to increase gamma globulins, giving foals the best start in life."
